Teeth Removed

Many dentists recommend Teeth Removed impacted teeth that are only partially erupted. Bacteria can enter around teeth and can cause an infection, which can spread to the bone and become extremely serious disorder. Impacted teeth continue trying to break through the gum tissue even if there is not enough space for them. The continued pressure caused by this attempted eruption can eventually damage the roots of adjacent teeth. The extraction of a tooth impacted can often prevent infection and damage to adjacent teeth and bone, and save pain in the future.

How are Teeth Removed?

Before removing a tooth, the dentist will thoroughly review your medical and dental history and take the appropriate X-rays.

X-rays reveal the length, shape, position of the tooth and the surrounding bone. From this information, the dentist can estimate the degree of difficulty of the procedure and decide whether to refer you to a specialist called an oral surgeon.

Before extraction, the dentist will anesthetize the area surrounding the tooth. It uses a local anesthetic to numb the area of the mouth where the extraction take place.

In a simple extraction, once the area is numbed, the dentist will loosen the tooth with the help of a tool called an elevator, then extracted with dental forceps. You may want to smooth and reshape the underlying bone. Once completed, it will decide whether to close the area with a point.

What should I expect after an extraction?

It is essential to keep the area clean and prevent infection immediately after extraction of a tooth. The dentist will ask you to bite down gently on a piece of dry sterile gauze to keep it there for 30 to 45 minutes to limit bleeding while clotting occurs. For the next 24 hours, you should not smoke, rinse your mouth vigorously, or clean the teeth next to the extraction site. Hopefully some degree of pain and discomfort after an extraction. In some cases, the dentist will recommend a pain killer or prescribe one. Applying an ice pack on face for periods of 15 minutes can relieve the discomfort. It is also advisable to limit strenuous activity, and avoid hot liquids. The day after the extraction, the dentist will suggest that you begin gently rinsing your mouth with warm salt water (do not swallow the water). Under normal circumstances, discomfort should decrease within a period ranging from three days to two weeks after extraction. If you have prolonged or severe pain, swelling, bleeding or fever, call your dentist immediately.
